Too Big To See: The Visual Culture of Economic Rights
Feb 7, 2013 Leshu Torchin, the 2012-2013 Humanities Center Senior Research Fellow, will discuss ways in which films about the global economy have been contributing to the growing discourse of economic justice. Some of these films, Torchin will argue, can be used to advance the otherwise marginalized set of economic, social, and cultural rights that are a part of the Human Rights Charter. In this talk Torchin will be building on work she did in her most recent book, Creating the Witness: Documenting Genocide on Film, Video, and the Internet (University of Minnesota Press, 2012).
