4:30 PM  - 6:30 PM
Steinberg Auditorium, Baker Hall A53

The Center for Africanamerican Urban Studies and the Economy (CAUSE) presents Khalil Gibran Muhammad, director of the Schomburg Center for Research in Black Culture at New York Public Library. Professor Muhammad's lecture, "The Condemnation of Blackness: Ideas about Race and Crime in the Making of Modern Urban America," is based in part upon his book of the same title, published by Harvard University Press in 2010. Muhammad's lecture will underscore "how, when, and why modern notions of black people as an exceptionally dangerous race of criminals first emerged." This year's CAUSE Lecture Series is in collaboration with the Heinz History Center exhibit "From Slavery to Freedom."
