Buhl Lecture: "Biochemistry and Biophysics, One Molecule at a Time: When Less is More"
Mar 25, 2014
Carnegie Mellon's Physics Department presents the 2014 Buhl Lecture, featuring Carlos Bustamante, Professor of Molecular and Cell Biology and Chemistry, and the Raymond and Beverly Sackler Chair of Physics at the University of California, Berkeley. In his talk, titled "Biochemistry and Biophysics, One Molecule at a Time: When Less is More," Bustamante will survey work done by his lab, including research conducted two decades ago that established the initial characterization of both extensional and torsional DNA-elasticity, and more recent projects that examine the mechanical unfolding and refolding of proteins and RNA, and the inner workings of various complex molecular machines. A reception will follow the lecture.
